UW retirees

Complimentary parking is available to fully retired UW retirees and their spouses at the UW Seattle campus (one permit per couple). This privilege is not transferable to others, including other relatives. Surviving spouses retain parking privileges, but need to obtain a Husky Card.

Retirees may obtain a daily parking permit either online at the customer portal or by stopping at any campus gatehouse and presenting their UW Retiree Husky Card to one of our parking specialists. The retiree card alone is not a parking permit.

Parking permits are linked to your vehicle's license plate number; this can be managed either through the online customer portal or at the gatehouse. If you have not used the customer portal before, please see our guide.

Retirees with accessibility concerns may park in a disability parking space with their daily permit. A state or UW-issued disability placard must be displayed to use disability parking spaces in campus lots. More information is available on the accessible parking page.

If you have returned to work at the UW since retiring, please read the section below on parking for reemployed retirees.

For more details on retiree parking, please see our FAQ (pdf). The retiree parking policy can be read at the UWRA site.

If you are obtaining your complimentary parking permit online, you will be asked to select a primary lot to associate with your permit. You will still have access to multiple lots even with the primary lot selected. If you are obtaining your complimentary parking at a gatehouse, Transportation Services’ parking specialists will suggest a primary parking area when you get your daily permit. Your complimentary parking permit (whether obtained online or at a gatehouse) allows parking based on space availability in any of the following lots:

  • Central Plaza Garage (C01-C06)
  • E02, E03, E08, E18, E19, E21
  • N01, N05, N18, N20, N21, N24, N25, N27, N28
  • S02, S08
  • W10, W46

Retirees who have returned to work at the UW in a compensated position must pay for work-related parking:

  • Retirees working part time (40% FTE or less) are eligible to buy a discounted single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) parking permit or may take advantage of other part-time parking products.
  • Retirees performing compensated work at more than 40% FTE must pay the same parking rates and follow the same policies as other compensated UW employees.

The complimentary parking privilege still applies to reemployed retirees if they are on campus for non-work reasons, such as to attend an event. In addition, parking before noon on Saturday and after 5pm on weekdays is complimentary for all UW retirees regardless of the reason. (See above for instructions on using this privilege.) Parking after noon on Saturday and all day Sunday is complimentary for all users.

Retirees receive complimentary parking on football game days and during other campus events, but must still obtain a parking permit online or at a gatehouse. On football game days, complimentary parking is NOT available in any of the East campus parking lots, Padelford garage (N16-N21), N24 or C12.

To take advantage of complimentary parking on football game days, obtain your parking permit online at the customer portal or go to the Central Plaza Garage (entrance on 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 41st Street) and present your UW Retiree Husky card at the gatehouse. You may be redirected to a different area based on space availability. For disability parking at games, call 206-685-1553.
